Plurals

Oh boy, plurals. In Romanian, plurals can get a little complicated, but after a while you'll get used to them. Neuter words are by far the most complicated, I just memorize their plural forms. Below are some examples of plural rules and some changes. I hope it won't be too complicated for you :). The examples should clear it up.

Masculine Words

Masculine words that end in a consonant, add an i. Also on the last syllable, the s changes to an ș.

If ending consonant is t, change it to ț. This applies to pretty much all endings that change from t(vowel) to ți.
Student Student

If consonant ends in al, el or il, change l to i.
Copil Child
Copii Children

If singular word ends in i, leave it as it is.
Ochi Eye

If masculine word ends in ă, change to i. If consonant ending before ă is t, change it to ț.
Tată Father

If word ends in u, change to i.
Metru Meter
Metri Meters

Exceptions: Om (Man) - Oameni (Men)

Feminine Words

Feminine words that end in ă. Change to e (mostly with persons or if the last syllable ends with să).

Sometimes the a in the syllable before the last will change to an e. "Casă" is not one of them.

e ending changes to i. Many times in feminine words if the syllable before the last one has an a, in the plural it will change to ă with the i as the plural word ending.

If feminine word ends in ie after a consonant, ie changes to i.
Femeie Woman
Femei Women
Baie Bathroom

If word ends in ie after a vowel, it changes to ii.
Stație Bus/underground station
Stații Bus/underground stations

If word ends in ea. change to ele.
Cafea Coffee
Cafele (Cups of) coffee.
Stea Star

If word ends in a. add le
Sofa Couch
Sofale Couches

If word ends in i. Keep it as it is
Tanti Aunt

Exceptions: Șoră (Sister) - surori (Sisters), Noră (Daughter-In-Law) - Nurori (daughter-in-laws), Mână (Hand) - Mâini (Hands), Zi (Day) - Zile (Days)

Neuter Words

Something important about neuter words. They have masculine values in the singular, and feminine values in the plural. So, un loc - două locuri.
