Verb Conjugation Rules

Get ready for a longer lesson than usual. This lessons will basically describe the rules for Romanian verb conjugations in the simple present tense. After this, you'll be able to conjugate most Romanian regular verbs in the simple present tense. Just hope you find out that the verb is regular first :).

Romanian verb infinitive endings take the -a -e -ea and -i endings. -e and -ea verbs have the same basic conjugation rules. Here are the regular verb conjugation rules for the present tense:

-A Conjugation Verb Rules

First off, the -a infinitive ending is a little tricky, because they can have 2 different endings except for the 1st person plural and 2nd person plural.

Eu: -, -ez
Tu: -i, -ezi
El/Ea: -ă, -eaz
Noi: -ăm, -ăm
Voi: -ați, -ați
Ei/Ele: -ă, -ează

a spera (to hope)
Singular Plural
Eu sper Noi sperăm
Tu speri Voi sperați
El/ea speră Ei/ele speră

a dansa (to dance)
Singular Plural
Eu dansez Noi dansăm
Tu dansezi Voi dansați
El/ea dansează Ei/ele dansează

-E Conjugation Verb Rules

-e and -ea verbs only have 2 different regular endings on the 1sg, and 3pl, but I know there is a rule for this. The -e or -ea verbs take -u in the 1sg and 3pl conjugations if the root ends in a vowel

Eu: -, (-u)
Tu: -i
El/Ea: -e
Noi: -em
Voi: -eți
Ei/Ele: -

a merge (to go)
Singular Plural
Eu merg Noi mergem
Tu mergi Voi mergeți
El/ea mergee Ei/ele merg

a scrie (to write)
Singular Plural
Eu scriu Noi scriem
Tu scrii Voi scrieți
El/ea scrie Ei/ele scriu

-I Conjugation Verb Rules

-i verbs are the easier ones since they don't have any fancy rules to regular present tense conjugations.

Eu: -esc
Tu: -ești
El/Ea: -ește
Noi: -im
Voi: -iți
Ei/Ele: -esc

a vorbi (to speak)
Singular Plural
Eu vorbesc Noi vorbim
Tu vorbești Voi vorbiți
El/ea vorbește Ei/ele vorbesc
